Retail Risk - Podcast

Chemist Warehouse’s Mo Nagi shares the prescription for smarter, stronger loss prevention…

This week on the Retail Risk – Podcast, Paul is joined by Mo Nagi, General Manager in Loss Prevention at Chemist Warehouse.

The conversation opens with Mo sharing a behind-the-scenes look at life inside one of Australia’s largest pharmacy retailers. In his words, the business is getting “bigger and better” as it expands into new international markets with real momentum.

And hot off the press, that expansion now includes the UK and Ireland, so don’t be surprised to see a Chemist Warehouse popping up on a London high street before long.

Mo also reflects on the company’s priorities as it continues to invest in technology, while keeping a firm grip on the fundamentals. For Chemist Warehouse, that means building strong operational frameworks, training teams effectively, and ensuring people know how to act on the intelligence they are given. Because as Mo rightly points out, “technology without the right processes behind it is really just expensive hardware”.

Attention then turns to one of the most pressing issues facing the industry today: the rise in abuse against retail workers. Tune in to hear how Mo and his team are tackling the issue head-on, with a clear focus on protecting and supporting their people.

And of course, Paul couldn’t have Mo in the hot seat without quizzing him on his recent win at the Australian Fraud Awards, where he was officially inducted into the Retail Risk Hall of Fame by his industry peers. With Australian Risk Director of the Year already under his belt, it is fair to say the trophy cabinet may soon need an extension.

Mo recounts the incredible moment his name was announced, remembering how he glanced at a colleague standing wide-eyed in astonishment with his beer in hand. “My first thought was, you’d better not drop that beer on me, mate!” he laughs.

The chat wraps up with a look at what lies ahead for the rest of 2026, both on the professional and personal front. And in true Aussie fashion, that of course means plenty of family BBQs and AFL!
