Connor is a security guard. He works late shifts in a shopping mall.
One evening, he challenges two suspected shoplifters. One pulls a machete and attacks Connor.
Somehow, he fights back, disarms the assailant and helps police apprehend both men – despite them attempting to flee the scene.
Experts later described the assailants as a threat to the general public and Connor’s actions as showing “incredible courage.”
Connor chose to make a difference…
Jenny is a cashier. She notices something isn’t right with a young woman at her cash desk. Under her breath, she quietly asks a simple question – “Are you ok?” She gets a chilling answer: “No, but they’ll kill me if I don’t do what they say.”
Jenny quietly raises the alarm, despite knowing that in doing so she could be putting herself and her family at risk. Jenny’s actions ultimately lead to the takedown of a gang exploiting dozens of victims of modern slavery.
Jenny chose to make a difference…
Now it is time for all of retail to do something on behalf of the Connors and Jennys of our industry. They don’t heroically go that extra mile for money or fame. They do it because it’s intrinsically the right thing to do.
But if these stories aren’t told and celebrated, they’re lost. And if that happens, we ALL lose something FAR BIGGER – the chance to recognise what ‘doing the right thing’ actually looks like. The chance to hold up a shining example of heroism for all to see, to admire it and gain inspiration from the sharing.
Connor and Jenny both chose to make a difference. Now you can do the same…
On the 18th June, following Retail Risk – London earlier in the day, we will be celebrating the heroism of Connor and Jenny, and hundreds more heroes like them at the Heroes of Retail Risk Awards – sponsored by ASEL. All of retail is invited to attend…
- We have a glittering black tie Awards Gala Dinner planned, with all our heroes in attendance
- There will be a champagne reception, VIP Lounge and celebrity guests joining the party
- Comedian Hal Cruttenden will be opening our show. Hal is one of the top stand-up acts working in the UK today with appearances on ‘Live at the Apollo’, ‘Have I Got News For You’ and ‘The Royal Variety Performance’
- TV legend Siân Jones who has for many years been at the forefront of broadcasting for major networks including ITV, Sky News, Bloomberg and CNBC, will once again expertly host the Awards
- A video of each of our winners’ dramatic stories will be told on the big screen, creating a roller coaster of emotion and a feel-good factor that last year prompted one retailer to comment afterwards “The best awards show I have ever been to… anywhere…”
- Four terrific food courses with wines and beers then follow before we end the evening on a high, with dancing to the outstanding British Rock band The Warning Tones
That’s the biggest line up of top entertainment for ANY Retail Risk event, anywhere in the world, EVER!
Everyone agrees that front line retail faces greater and greater challenges each day. Everyone says they support those colleagues. But now it’s your turn to do more than just talk the talk. It’s your chance to walk the walk; to show you care… by being there…
If you would like to be hosted by one of our brilliant sponsors, please email [email protected]. We still have some spare seats available.
And if you would like to show your support by booking your own table for the evening then go to https://www.retailrisk.com/award/the-heroes-of-retail-risk-awards-uk/.
Choose to make a difference like Connor and Jenny did… because it is the right thing to do…
