Matt Tierney is the Manager of the National Retail Investigation Support Unit (NRISU), a specialist division within New Zealand Police focused on tackling the country’s most violent and persistent retail offenders.
With over 16 years of policing experience, Matt combines frontline insight with strategic leadership to strengthen collaboration between law enforcement and the retail sector. Since re-joining the Police in 2022 to establish the NRISU, he has worked closely with major retailers, security partners, and industry associations to reduce harm, improve intelligence sharing, and drive coordinated responses to organised retail crime.
Matt’s approach is grounded in partnership – recognising that effective crime prevention depends on communication, data, and trust between police and the private sector.
