Draft framework aims to raise standards and encourage more responsible security procurement…
Organisations responsible for buying private security services are being encouraged to take part in a consultation on a new industry charter designed to improve procurement standards across the sector.
Developed by the Security Industry Authority’s Buyers Special Interest Group (SIG), the draft Security Buyer’s Charter has been created by security buyers themselves, with input from procurement, insurance and security professionals.
The framework is intended to help organisations make more informed, transparent and responsible purchasing decisions as security risks become increasingly complex. It also reflects the practical challenges faced by those responsible for procuring and managing security contracts.
Launched for consultation on 24th June, the charter aims to:
- strengthen professional standards and competence
- promote fair pay, lawful working conditions and workforce wellbeing for security personnel
- improve collaboration between stakeholders to strengthen public protection outcomes
- embed sustainability and social responsibility in procurement and contract management practice
- enhance confidence in the sector through transparent, accountable and ethical practice
“By bringing together the SIA and security buyers in this collaboration, we have created something genuinely transformative – a practical toolkit that doesn’t just set expectations but makes compliance accessible and actionable,” said Sarah Cork and Jayne King, co-chairs of the SIA’s Buyers Special Interest Group.
