From PE to LP: Amazon’s Chris Johnson shares his story on this week’s podcast

Retail Risk - Podcast

Discover what it really takes to prevent loss at one of the world’s most recognisable brands…

This week on the Retail Risk – Podcast, Paul is joined by Chris Johnson, Senior Regional Loss Prevention Manager at Amazon.

Chris might have two decades of retail experience behind him, but loss prevention wasn’t always the plan. In fact, he reveals that he originally had his sights set on becoming a PE teacher. So what changed? And how did LP turn into what he now calls “a match made in heaven”? That journey is one best told in his own words…

Along the way, Chris has built an impressive career with some of the UK’s most recognisable retailers before making the move to Amazon, where he’s now closing in on 10 years.

In the episode, Chris offers a behind-the-scenes look at Amazon’s unique culture, including its well-known “fail, and fail fast” mantra, and what that really means day to day. He talks candidly about problem-solving at scale, what keeps him awake at night, and the growing challenges of modern risk – including some thoughtful reflections on AI and how it can be misused in the wrong hands.

There’s also a refreshingly honest moment as Chris shares his biggest personal and professional learning curve – one that coincided with the birth of his daughter – and how it reshaped the way he leads and communicates today (take note new parents!)

And finally, no episode would be complete without a bit of coffee chat. Let’s just say Chris has very strong opinions on seasonal drinks… suffice to say pumpkin spice isn’t on the menu!
