The NSW government lifted covid restrictions just two days before the Australian Fraud Awards 2022.

Not only did that reassure people that it was finally safe to reclaim their normal lives, but it also allowed luminaries from overseas to attend the Australian Fraud Awards at its new home the Accor Stadium – including Retail Knowledge Founder Paul Bessant, who masterfully compered the Awards evening…

The Fraud Awards is always an eagerly anticipated event, celebrating as it does excellence in our industry. Not only does recognition at the Australian Fraud Awards provide valuable bragging rights for those who do claim glassware on the night (the trophies are made of engraved crystal), but also demonstrates globally the value of our industry and pivotal role in retail.

“Celebrating the best to inspire others to do even better,” is the stated aim of the Australian Fraud Awards and, with a sell-out crowd, there is no doubt that the evening accomplished that in spades.

Award for Most Innovative Physical Retail Risk Management Solution

Here the judges are looking for innovative approaches to either emerging or well-established challenges. The solution may have been developed by a vendor, retailer or security/guarding team or be the result of collaborative effort. The solution must address an in-store retail problem, including new challenges and those that overlap with an online customer order, such as fulfilment from store or kerbside pick-up, but excluding supply chain (which is part of the online category).

Award for Most Innovative Online Retail Risk Management Solution

Here the judges are looking for innovative approaches to either emerging or well-established challenges. The solution may have been developed by a vendor, or retailer or be the result of a collaborative effort. The solution must address an online retail problem, including challenges experienced within distribution centres and the supply chain.

Retail Risk Vendor of The Year Award

The judges will be looking for a vendor who consistently goes over and above the role of ‘just’ being a supplier. The Vendor Of The Year Award will acknowledge those vendors who form tangible and lasting partnerships with their retail clients. Please note that the winner from the previous year will be ineligible to enter the following year. However, they will be invited to the Fraud Awards evening to present the award.

Retail Risk Management Rising Star of The Year Award

The judges are looking to recognise the success of an outstanding individual who has made a positive contribution to the bottom line performance and overall loss prevention landscape within their place of work. The winner does not necessarily work full-time in profit protection. They might be from another discipline, but “really get” risk and as such has made a significant difference – either financially or culturally – within their place of work.

Regional Profit Protection Manager of The Year Award

Often the unsung heroes of the Risk Team, this Award recognises outstanding Regional or Divisional Heads who provide their stores with genuine support and guidance in the fight against retail risk and fraud, and who also embrace the bigger, company-wide aims and objectives. In so doing they bring genuine value and benefits to their company as well as the wider industry network.

Retail Risk Management Team of The Year Award

Recognises the Profit Protection Team that undertook that difficult online technology roll-out that was delivered in record time. This Award is for excellence in the symbiotic fields of online risk management and robust supply chain processes. It recognises the team that undertook that difficult technology roll out, or inspired the whole organisation with its approach to new challenges. It is a real pat on the back for not only spotting trends and suspicious anomalies within the fulfilment chain, but also successfully risk sizing and closing the process gaps that are causing shrink within the business.

The judges are looking for outstanding contribution from one individual. That could be in the face of difficult trading conditions, or the implementation of challenging new strategies and technologies.
